From Pity To Praise

Scripture:

I recall all you have done, oh Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.
-Psalms 77: 1-15, with emphasis on verse 11. NLT.

The psalmist Asaph was in deep distress. And though the Bible is not clear what led to his distress, we know it caused him to cry, moan, and stay up all night pleading and praying for God to deliver him from his distressful situation.

But in the midst of Asaph's distress, something happened. He begin to recall all of the good deeds God had already done in his life; he remembered how holy, mighty and powerful God was, and he remembered the many miracles and wonders God had accomplished in the world.

If you are in the midst of a distressful situation, your natural reaction might be to cry and plead for God to deliver you. And you even feel sorry for yourself when it doesn't appear God is answering your prayer. But in the midst of your distressful situation, determine to be like Asaph - recall some of the wonderful deeds God has already accomplished in your life, remember how holy, mighty, and powerful God is, and rejoice in the many miracles and wonders God has done in your world, and you may find that your pity is turning into praise.

Prayer: Lord, in the midst of my distressful situation, help me to remember how great and good you are, so my pity can turn into praise.

Sharing the word,

Jeaninne
