Scripture:
Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn't talk to you as I would to mature Christians. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian faith. I Corinthians 3:1 NLT
Although I've been a Christian for over thirty years, my attitude toward others, my inconsistency in my giving and my lack of patience with my children are causing me to wonder lately just how mature a Christian I really am.
When Paul visited the Corinthian believers, he expected them to act like mature Christians. Yet the constant quarreling, bickering and jealousy he saw them doing with each other proved they were still infants in their spiritual maturity.
Can the same be said of you? If you've been a Christian for a while, do you act more like an infant in the faith or a mature believer? Are you controlled by your own desires or by God's? The Bible defines immature Christians as "wordly," controlled by desires such as anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander and dirty language; on the other hand, mature Christians are controlled by desires such as " mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3: 8,12,13).
If you've been a Christian for some time, but find your actions more in line with an immature believer than a mature one, maybe it's time you took inventory of your spiritual growth as a believer, so you can start acting your age.
Sharing the word,
Jeaninne
