Giving All That You Have

Scripture

Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two pennies. "I assure you, he said, this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has."  Luke 21: 104, NLT

2009 wasn't the best year for me financially and there have been days when I've struggled just to make ends meet. And now that December is here, my children may not get everything they want for Christmas because my bank account just won't allow it. But though I don't have a lot of  money to spend this holiday season, every time I pass the Salvation Army kettle located outside of the various stores where I shop, I feel compelled to give whatever monies I have in my wallet, even if it's just a little change, for I know there is someone out there who has a greater need than I have this holiday season.

The widow probably wondered how she would take care of her family after giving her last two pennies to the temple. According to scripture, she was a poor woman who didn't have a lot of resources for making money to feed her family. Yet when she came to the temple and passed the collection box, she still gave all she had.

Maybe 2009 has been a difficult one for you  too financially. But as you prepare to celebrate the holiday season and someone crosses your path that has a need, don't be afraid to give what you have, even if it means giving all that you have, for Jesus notices when we sacrifice for others. And just like he remembered the poor widow for her sacrifice, he will remember you too for giving out of your little to help someone else have a good Christmas.

Praying God's abundant blessings upon you and yours this holiday season,

Sharing the Word,

Jeaninne
