What can I do to help you?...Tell me, what do you have in the house?
(II Kings, 4:2, NLT)
I thank God for the book I am reading, One month to live, for every time I read it, it speaks volumes to me. Such was the case when I read the chapter this week called Road signs. For this chapter talks about praying for miracles. And lately I've been praying for a miracle.
But I was reminded through this chapter that God doesn't always send us what we need in one large swoop; sometimes God wants to fix our problems by starting with what we have. Sometimes He wants us to assess our resources to fix the problem that is occurring in our lives. Such was the case with the widow in II Kings. Although God knew she was in need of a miracle to resolve her problem, instead of answering her prayer in one large swoop, He used Elijah to help her see what she already had to work with; He used Elijah to help her see that even though her situation looked bleak, if she stopped and took inventory of her resources, she could find a starting point to resolve her bleak situation.
I believe God is saying the same thing to me today. For a long time, I didn't believe I had any resources left to fix my situation. But like the widow, I've made a U-turn. From negative thinking to positive thinking. And now that I've taken a closer look at my "house", I realize I do have some resources to begin the starting point of resolving my problem.
So if you're in need of a miracle in your life today, take a look first at what's in your "house". What resources do you already have that God can use to begin the work of a miracle for you.
Sharing the Word,
Jeaninne
