The Cup of Suffering

Scripture:

He went on a little farther and fell face down on the ground praying, My father, if it be possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me.  Yet I want your will, not mine.
(Matthew 26:39, NLT)

I  can't take anymore. Although I gave up my career  to pursue my writing on a full-time basis, the juggling act I face every month deciding which bills to pay, the lack of discretionary funds to attend special events with my family, and the mental and physical toll it's taken on my health is becoming too much for me to bear. I've prayed and asked God if there is some way He could fix my financial situation.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus also felt the pressure of a decision he made.  Agreeing with his father that he would come to earth and die for the sins of the world, the time finally came for him to fulfill his commitment.  But in a dusky garden as he thought about his impending suffering, he asked his Father if it were possible for the "cup of suffering" to be removed.

It's okay to pray and ask God to deliver us from the suffering we may face as we live for him, for even Jesus prayed to escape suffering.  But what if God chooses not to answer our prayer and remove our  suffering? It's during those times we must look to Him for the strength to say, "nevertheless, not my will but thy will be done."

Sharing the Word,

Jeaninne
